// Official meaning
ABS pump motor circuit open — a burnt-out motor winding or failed internal connection inside the unit.
// On the bench
Where C1095 is often intermittent, C1185 usually means the motor circuit has gone properly open — a burnt winding or a broken internal connection. Common on higher-mileage Transits that have spent their lives on the motorway. The hydraulic block is almost always fine; it is the electrics bolted to it that have given up.
How it shows up
- ABS light on permanently
- Pump motor completely dead
- Often accompanied by traction/ESP warnings
What fixing it involves
Bench repair of the module — motor circuit rebuilt or motor replaced, typically £150–£250. The only units we cannot save are those with a physically cracked hydraulic block, which is rare; if we cannot repair it, you do not pay.
Frequently asked questions
Is an open motor circuit repairable?
Usually yes — our success rate on Ford Transit ABS modules is above 95%. The rare exceptions are units with cracked hydraulic blocks, and those we tell you about before any money changes hands.
What do you need from me before I post the unit?
The part number from the ABS unit label (usually 6C11-2M110-XX format on Transits), the model and year, and your symptoms or codes. WhatsApp them over for a quick quote.
