// What fails
ABS pump failures are dominated by a handful of patterns: internal pressure sensors drifting out of range (the classic Ford C1288), cracked solder on the pump motor relay and driver stages, and module electronics killed by vibration and heat. The hydraulics are usually fine — it is the electronic module bolted to them that gives up.
We repair ABS modules across most makes — Ford, BMW, Vauxhall and more — keeping your original coded unit so there is no programming battle afterwards. One important exception: Mercedes SBC brake units are a speciality of their own, handled on our dedicated sister site.
Symptoms we see every week
- ABS / traction control lights permanently on
- Pressure sensor fault codes (e.g. Ford C1288) that return after clearing
- ABS pump running constantly or not at all
- Speed sensor codes on multiple wheels at once
- No communication with the ABS module
Our process
- DiagnoseThe fault is confirmed with proper diagnostics and board inspection before any work is quoted.
- RepairComponent-level repair on your original unit — coding, keys and adaptations preserved.
- Bench testThe repaired unit is proven on the bench under realistic conditions before it goes back.
- WarrantyWork is covered by our workshop warranty, with terms confirmed in writing on your quote.
Repaired ABS modules are bench-tested for communication, sensor plausibility and pump-driver operation before return. Brakes are safety-critical: if a unit cannot be repaired to a standard we would put on our own cars, we say so.
Pricing
ABS module repair is quoted per unit — send the part number from the pump label to 07404 487674. Mercedes SBC (Sensotronic) units are handled by our dedicated SBC service: rebuilds £430, exchange units £700, complete on-car service from £650 — see sbc-repair.com.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to drive with the ABS light on?
You normally keep conventional braking, but ABS, traction and stability control are offline — and on some cars brake-force distribution too. Treat it as a priority repair and drive gently in the meantime.
Do you repair Mercedes SBC brake pumps?
Yes — but through our dedicated sister site sbc-repair.com, which covers SBC rebuilds (£430), exchange units (£700) and the complete on-car service from £650. SBC is a different beast from conventional ABS and gets its own workshop process.
Will the repaired ABS unit need coding to my car?
No — repairing your original module keeps its coding, so it goes back on the car and works. That is the main advantage over a replacement unit.
Can I just send the electronic module rather than the whole pump?
It depends on the design — on some units the module separates cleanly, on others the assembly should come as one. Tell us the part number and we will say exactly what to send.
