// Official meaning
Pump motor fault — the SBC hydraulic pump motor has failed or is failing.
// On the bench
The heart of the unit: the motor that builds the brake pressure. When it is on its way out this code is stored, and it is one of the failures that genuinely justifies the rebuild rather than any shortcut. Listed in our SBC repair write-ups since 2017.
How it shows up
- SBC warning message on the dash
- Pump audibly struggling, or silent when it should prime
- Code returns after clearing
What fixing it involves
Three honest routes, all through our dedicated SBC workshop at sbc-repair.com: a counter reset (£120 — nothing replaced, only right if the pump tests healthy), a full rebuild of your own unit (£430, 6-month warranty), or an exchange pump (£700, 12-month warranty, no core return). Complete on-car service — repair, reprogram, bleed and initialise — from £650.
Frequently asked questions
Is the car safe to drive with a failing SBC pump motor?
Treat it seriously. SBC has a backup mode, but a motor on its way out is the one component you do not gamble on. Call us before driving any distance — we will give you a straight answer based on the symptoms.
Is a second-hand pump a sensible fix?
We would not recommend it: a used unit costs £300–£750 and you inherit its unknown wear and its used-up lifetime counter. A rebuilt unit (£430) or exchange pump (£700, 12-month warranty) is known quantity.
