Mercedes W447 Vito / V-Class No-Start — EZS Repair & CAN Diagnosis

SVC-W447-EZS-11

Key not recognised or the whole van dead? On the W447 it is not always the EZS — we diagnose the real cause first: ignition switch, immobiliser chain, or an interior CAN bus fault pulling everything down.

// What fails

The Mercedes W447 Vito and V-Class use an electronic ignition switch / drive authorisation module (EZS/EIS) that is matched to the vehicle and keys. When the EZS side fails, the vehicle can appear dead, refuse to recognise the key, or fail to wake the ignition system correctly.

But not every W447 no-start is the EZS. Modules on the interior CAN bus can short internally and drag the whole bus down, blocking key recognition and start authorisation even though the EZS itself is healthy. A real example from our own emergency callouts: a London W447 that would not start because the heater/climate control panel was shorting the interior CAN — disconnect the faulty panel and the van started immediately. No EZS repair needed, and the customer paid less than the worst-case quote.

That is why this service is diagnosis-led, with a guide price of £300–£650. A confirmed EZS/EIS bench repair is £300 — we repair the original unit where possible so the vehicle identity and key data stay with the vehicle instead of turning the job into an expensive dealer replacement chain. Jobs that need deeper interior-CAN fault-finding, parts or out-of-hours attendance sit higher in the range, and the final cost is confirmed with you after diagnosis, before any work starts. If the fault turns out to be something simpler, you pay for what the job actually was, not what it was feared to be.

Symptoms we see every week

  • Mercedes W447 Vito or V-Class key not recognised
  • Ignition does not wake up correctly when the key is used
  • Van completely dead or no-start with the electrics behaving strangely — possible interior CAN bus fault
  • No-start or immobiliser / drive authorisation fault traced to EZS/EIS
  • Intermittent ignition authorisation fault after battery or voltage problems

Our process

  1. DiagnoseThe fault is confirmed with proper diagnostics and board inspection before any work is quoted.
  2. RepairComponent-level repair on your original unit — coding, keys and adaptations preserved.
  3. Bench testThe repaired unit is proven on the bench under realistic conditions before it goes back.
  4. WarrantyWork is covered by our workshop warranty, with terms confirmed in writing on your quote.

We confirm where the fault actually lives before committing to a repair route: keys, EZS/EIS, start authorisation chain and the interior CAN bus (a shorted accessory such as the climate/heater panel can block starting on the W447). Confirmed EZS repairs are done on the bench with the original immobiliser/key data preserved where repairable.

Frequently asked questions

Is every Mercedes W447 no-start an EZS fault?

No. The EZS/EIS is a common culprit, but the W447 can also refuse to start because of an interior CAN bus fault — a shorted module such as the heater/climate control panel can pull the bus down and block key recognition entirely. We have proven this on real emergency callouts, which is why we diagnose before repairing.

How much does a Mercedes W447 no-start repair cost?

Guide price £300–£650. A confirmed EZS/EIS repair is £300; a job that needs deeper interior CAN bus fault-finding, replacement parts or an out-of-hours callout can sit higher in that range. The exact price is confirmed after diagnosis and agreed with you before any work starts — speak to John on 07404 487674 before paying anything.

Is this payment link specifically for Mercedes W447 Vito / V-Class EZS repair?

Yes. This page is for an agreed W447 EZS/EIS repair at £300. If your vehicle is a different Mercedes chassis, or the fault has not been confirmed yet, contact us first before paying.

Will my existing keys still work?

The aim is to repair the original EZS/EIS and preserve the existing key and immobiliser data. If the unit is too damaged for a normal repair, we will discuss the route before doing extra work.

Do you cover emergency or out-of-hours W447 no-starts in London?

Yes, by arrangement — call or WhatsApp 07404 487674. We run mobile diagnostics across London and the South East from our Basingstoke base, and we can take card payment on site via a secure Stripe link, so a late-night breakdown does not need cash.
